# Which Hamburger Hill Game Is This? The Wesware FPS Explained

> The Hamburger Hill game this wiki covers is the 2026 single-player FPS by Wesware, set in the fictional country of Granovia, not the 1987 film or any board game.

The Hamburger Hill game this wiki covers is the single-player military FPS by Wesware, released on itch.io on October 22, 2026. It is set in Granovia, a made-up country, with a war that starts in March 1976. It is not the 1987 film, not a retelling of the real 1969 battle and not one of the board games that use the name. Searches for "Hamburger Hill game" mix all of these together, so this guide sets them side by side.

## How do you know you have the Wesware game?

Check three things. The author is Wesware, and the loading screen says "© 2026 Wesware Game Studios". The store page calls it a single-player military FPS where you lead a squad through "the jungles, rice paddies and streets of Granovia". And the game is a free download for Windows, macOS and Linux, with no browser version.

## Is it about the real Battle of Hamburger Hill?

No. The real battle was fought in May 1969 during the Vietnam War, and the store page opens with a quote dated May 1969 that uses the phrase "hamburger machine". The game itself, though, takes place in a fictional war. Its map of Granovia has provinces such as Hill 712, Kessa Town, Port Alrin and Dhal Stronghold, and the three sides are the U.S., the Granovians and the Warlords. In our campaign, the first newspaper was dated March 1976 and read "War declared! Troops sail for Granovia".

## What else is called Hamburger Hill?

| Title | What it is | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| Hamburger Hill (Wesware, 2026) | Single-player military FPS with a campaign map | The game this wiki covers |
| Hamburger Hill (1987) | A Vietnam War film | A movie, not a game |
| Battle of Hamburger Hill (1969) | A real battle of the Vietnam War | History, not a game |
| Hamburger Hill board games | Several tabletop wargames about the 1969 battle | Played on a table |
| Hamburger Hill mod for Men of War: Vietnam | A mod for another PC game | Needs Men of War: Vietnam to run |
| Antagonistic: Hamburger Hill | A Ludum Dare 38 action strategy game on itch.io | You lead an army of ants up Hill 943 to snatch a burger |
| Hamburger Hill by cohenpark | A Windows action game on itch.io | Status On hold, about fighting through doors up a hill |

## What does the Wesware game actually play like?

It plays like an old-school shooter with a strategy layer. On the campaign map you spend a war budget, recruit soldiers in six roles and choose where to attack, while a Support meter falls with every loss. Each battle is a first-person fight where you lead your squad with two keys: F for "Hold here" or "On me" and V for the squad mode. [Quick Play](/wiki/hamburger-hill/modes/quick-play/) lets you set up single battles on nine maps with up to 32 soldiers a side.

The look is deliberately retro. One itch.io commenter described it as a war game "with a DOOM-era engine", and the soldiers are flat sprites in 3D levels. The newer Digitized sprites arrived in version 0.8.0, and the Options let you switch back to Classic.

## Why does the name matter for search?

Because most of the other titles are older. If you are looking for the Wesware game's controls, weapons or campaign, add "Wesware" or "FPS" to your search, or start from the [Hamburger Hill Wiki home](/wiki/hamburger-hill/). If you want the film or the history of the 1969 battle, this wiki is not the right place.
