DirtBound Secret Booster: The Konami Code Cheat

DirtBound hides a booster: type the Konami code during a solo race and Shift gives you more speed, but runs driven with it are never saved or ranked.

DirtBound has a hidden booster. Type the Konami code during a solo race (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A) and the game shows “Booster unlocked · Shift”. From then on, holding Shift makes the car faster. Type the code again and it says “Booster off”. The catch is simple: any lap or stage you drive with the boost is never saved as a record and never sent to a leaderboard. We tested the code on a 1 km stage in desktop Chrome on November 2, 2026, and the rules below come from the game’s own script.

How do you type the Konami code in DirtBound?

Start any solo race, a rally stage or a circuit, and type these ten keys in order while you are driving or standing on the line:

StepKey
1 and 2Up arrow, Up arrow
3 and 4Down arrow, Down arrow
5 to 8Left, Right, Left, Right arrows
9 and 10B, then A

The game reads the letters by what they type, so it works on AZERTY and other keyboard layouts too. A message near the top of the screen confirms it: “Booster unlocked · Shift”. The setting is saved on your device, so it stays on for your next races until you type the code again.

What does the DirtBound booster do?

Hold Left Shift or Right Shift and your car’s top speed goes up by half, to 1.5 times normal. It also gets there twice as fast. Let go and the car returns to normal speed. Nothing else changes: the handling, the penalties and the automatic resets all work the same, so a boosted car arrives at corners much faster than you are used to.

That makes the booster a fun way to drive an Endless stage or to see a long road quickly. It is not a way to set records.

Why are boosted times not saved?

The game marks a run as boosted the moment you use Shift, and a boosted run is treated as if it never set a time:

  • Stages: the result card shows your time with the note “booster: time not saved”, and your stage record does not change.
  • Circuits: each lap is checked on its own. A lap where you used the boost shows “Lap with the booster: not counted”. The next clean lap counts again.
  • Daily challenge: a boosted run is not sent to the daily leaderboard.

The script that adds the booster has a switch for counting boosted runs, and in the build we checked it was set to never count them.

Can you use the booster online?

No. The booster does not work in multiplayer or Experimental lobbies. The Experimental mode has its own speed boosts instead: the Turbo power-up, the Shield turbo and the boost pads on the track, all described on the Experimental page .

How do you turn the booster off?

Type the Konami code again during a solo race. The message “Booster off” appears and Shift goes back to doing nothing. Clearing your browser’s site data for dirtbound.fr also resets it, along with your saved times and settings.

Are there other DirtBound cheats?

Not that we found. The booster is the only hidden code in the game files we read. Everything else that changes speed is a visible game rule: grass cuts your top speed to 62%, and the Experimental mode has its power-ups. If you want real time gains, the faster stage times guide covers what actually counts.

What else do players ask about DirtBound secret booster?

Does the DirtBound booster work in multiplayer?
No. The game file that adds the booster says it is not available in multiplayer, so lobby races stay fair.
Is using the DirtBound booster cheating?
It is a hidden feature the developers built in, and it cannot help you on any leaderboard because boosted runs are never saved or sent. Use it for fun on solo roads.
