Best Car in DirtBound: Does Your Choice Matter?
There is no best car in DirtBound: in the build we checked, all 17 rally cars share one handling model, so the garage choice changes looks only.

There is no best car in DirtBound. In the build we checked on November 1, 2026, all 17 rally cars use the same handling model and the same top speed, so the car you pick in the Garage changes how it looks and nothing else. Pick the one you like. This guide shows how we reached that answer, what the Garage actually offers and which cars show up most on the leaderboards. The full list is in the cars table .
How did we check that every car drives the same?
We read the game’s own code. DirtBound loads its scripts openly in the browser, and three files settle the question:
- The car list names each car and its number of liveries, and nothing more. There is no speed, weight or grip value next to any name.
- The car loader takes the name you picked, fetches that car’s 3D model and paint and hands the model to the driving code.
- The driving code uses one set of numbers for every car: one top speed, one handbrake strength and one slide model. The only thing that changes top speed is the ground under you, which drops to 62% on grass, and boosts in the Experimental mode.
This holds for the current build. The game is in development, so a future update could add car stats, and we will update this page if it does.
Why do the cars look so different then?
The cars come from a pack of arcade rally models named after real rally cars, from the Alpine A110 and Lancia Fulvia to the Hyundai I20 N. The game recolors all of them with five liveries. In other words, the Garage is a style choice. Your car shows on online leaderboards next to your username and is what other players see in lobbies, so it is a way to stand out.
| Make | Cars in the Garage |

Which cars do top DirtBound players use?
The Audi Quattro S1 and the Suzuki Pikes Peak Escudo appeared most at the top of the boards we looked at. On the Kenney Circuit leaderboard, four of the top six times were set in the Audi Quattro S1, with a Ford Escort RS Cosworth and a Lancia Delta HF in the others. On the daily challenge board for November 1, 2026, three of the top six were in the Suzuki Pikes Peak Escudo, with an Audi Quattro S1, a Ford Focus and a Hyundai I20 N in the rest.
That spread fits the code. The Audi is the car every new player starts in, so it shows up a lot, and the rest of the top places are spread across makes. None of this means one car is quicker. It only shows what people like to drive.
So what should you pick?
Pick a car you enjoy looking at for a few hundred corners. If you play online, a less common car and a bright livery make you easier to spot in a pack. Then spend your effort on the things that do change your time: avoiding the two penalties, braking before corners and staying off the grass. The faster stage times guide covers all three.
