How does Pyroblast hit?

Pyroblast is a slow, heavy Fire bolt on one enemy. Its 35-yard range is the longest in the Mage pool and ties the longest in the game, and its base interval of 7 seconds makes it the slowest single-target Mage spell. It is built to be helped along by talents rather than cast on its own timer.

Where does Pyroblast fit in the Mage kit?

It is the payoff spell of the Fire tree. Fireball and the other Fire spells build critical strikes, and Pyroblast cashes them in. The Fire capstone Pyroclasm makes it a starting spell, and unlike the Arcane and Frost capstones its text does not say it replaces Fireball.

Which talents change Pyroblast?

Hot Streak, the Fire milestone at 20 points, casts a free Pyroblast on every fourth Fire critical strike, at most twice a second. That is the main way Pyroblast fires far more often than its 7-second base. Improved Blast Wave shortens the cooldowns of Blast Wave and Pyroblast over three ranks. Pyroclasm, the capstone at 30 points, starts every run with Pyroblast and makes enemies killed by your Fire spells explode for part of their maximum health on everything within 6 yards, up to 3 explosions a second.

All Fire school talents apply too, from Fire Power for damage to Impact for its stun chance. As a Fire spell, Pyroblast also counts for the achievement You’re Fired, the Edwin VanCleef kill with Fire.
