How does Corruption work?

Corruption is a Shadow damage-over-time spell. Its tooltip type afflicts enemies within range and spreads the damage over a set number of ticks. The data stores 2 targets, a 30-yard range and a 6-second duration, and it recasts every 1.4 seconds at base, as fast as Shadow Bolt. That short recast against a 6-second duration lets it keep several enemies afflicted at once.

Where does Corruption fit in the Warlock kit?

The picker says the Warlock is the class where damage over time stacks up on everything that chases you, and Corruption is the main way that happens. The Affliction tree is built around it, and its capstone makes Corruption a starting spell next to Shadow Bolt.

Which talents change Corruption?

Nightfall, the Affliction milestone at 10 points, gives every Corruption tick a 2% chance to fire a free Shadow Bolt. Contagion, the milestone at 20 points, moves Corruption and Curse of Agony to the nearest enemy when their victim dies. Seed of Corruption, the capstone at 30 points, starts each run with Corruption and makes enemies that die afflicted by any of your damage-over-time effects burst for part of their maximum health within 6 yards.

The general Affliction talents for damage over time all touch it. Shadow Embrace adds damage, Grim Reach adds a target, Fel Concentration adds duration and Siphon Life heals you for 1% of every tick. A bonus line in the client also adds targets and damage to Corruption, though its source is not named.
