Azeroth Survivors Save Backup: Export Before You Clear Your Browser
Azeroth Survivors keeps your save in browser storage, so export a file from Options, Saves before you clear site data or switch browsers.

Azeroth Survivors has no account and no cloud save. Your heroes, the zones each class has opened, your gear, your talents and the codex all live in your browser’s storage for wow.aethus.pl. Clearing that site’s data, or playing in a private window, can wipe them. Export a save file from Options, then Saves, before you do anything like that. The game also keeps hourly backups, but they sit in the same browser storage, so a full clear takes them too. This guide follows the save screens in the 0.132.0 client and the official save scripts. We have not tested moving a save into the Windows version.
Where is my progress stored?
Your progress is stored in your browser’s local storage for the official site, not on a server. The launcher reads the save from a storage entry called rogue.characters and keeps automatic backups beside it. MDN Web Docs explains that local storage has no expiration time, but that data from a private or incognito session “is cleared when the last private tab is closed.” Play in a normal window if you want your progress to last.
The Saves page describes what the file holds: “Your progress (heroes, the zones each class has opened, gear, talents and the codex).” Some of that is tracked per class. If you beat Edwin VanCleef in Elwynn Forest with a Warrior , Duskwood opens for Warriors only. Perks, tabards and races belong to the whole account, so every hero shares them. All of it lives in the same save, so losing the save means losing both kinds.
How do you export a save?
Open Options, go to the Saves page and press Export Save. The browser downloads a file named like “AzerothSurvivors 2026-10-31 18-05-12.sav,” with the date and time of the export, and the game confirms with “Your save was downloaded.” Move that file somewhere safe, such as a cloud drive or a USB stick, because your Downloads folder is easy to clean out by mistake.
Good times to export:
- Before you clear cookies and site data in your browser
- Before you switch to a new browser or computer
- Before you import someone else’s save or an old backup
- After a long session, so you have a recent copy
How do you import a save?
Open Options, then Saves, press Import Save and pick your .sav file. The picker also accepts .txt files. The game checks the file first and then asks, “Replace all of your progress with” the file you picked. Press Replace to load it or Cancel to back out. On success it says “Imported” followed by the file name, then “your progress is now the one it holds.”
Importing replaces everything. The Saves page warns: “Importing a save replaces all of your progress with the one in the file.” If you already have progress you care about, export it first. Two error messages can appear:
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| That is not an Azeroth Survivors save file. | You picked the wrong file |
| That save file is damaged or was edited, and cannot be read. | The file was changed or cut short |
The second one is why you should never open a save in a text editor and change it. The game seals the file when it exports, and an edited file will not load.
What are the hourly backups?
The game keeps its own safety copies while you play. In the game’s words: “Every hour you play, the game keeps a backup of your progress (the last 5). Import one to go back to it.” They appear on the Saves page under Backups, each labeled with its time, and you load one with Restore. If you have played less than an hour, the list says “No backups yet.”
These backups help when a run or an import goes wrong, but they are not a real off-site copy. They live in the same browser storage as your save, so clearing site data for wow.aethus.pl removes them as well. Only an exported file protects you from that.
How do you move a save from a copy site?
Use the Download your save button that the official launcher puts on copy sites, then import that file on wow.aethus.pl. Copies of Azeroth Survivors on other domains keep progress in that site’s own storage, and the official site cannot read it. When the launcher detects a copy, it shows “Fake website detected!” and, if it finds a save, adds the button.
| Step | Where | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | The copy site | Press Download your save to get AzerothSurvivors.sav |
| 2 | wow.aethus.pl | Export your current save first, if you have one |
| 3 | wow.aethus.pl | Open Options, Saves, Import Save and pick the file |
| 4 | wow.aethus.pl | Press Replace to confirm |
If the copy site has no save but does have an automatic backup, the launcher offers the newest backup instead. Step 2 matters because the import replaces everything on the official site. The troubleshooting guide explains the Fake website detected message, and the how to play guide covers what carries over between runs. When your save is safe, head back to the game from the Azeroth Survivors game page .
