Azeroth Survivors Not Working: Fix WebGPU First, Then Check the Busy Server

Most Azeroth Survivors start failures come from WebGPU, so check your browser and graphics settings before you blame the busy server.

When Azeroth Survivors will not start, the cause is almost always WebGPU. The game draws its whole world with it, and the official launcher checks for it before it loads anything else. Switch to a current Chrome, Edge or Safari on a computer, make sure hardware acceleration is on and, on a laptop with two graphics cards, point the browser at the stronger one. If the page says Too many people are playing instead, nothing on your side is broken: the official server has reached its daily request limit. We built this guide from the launcher’s own messages. We cannot see the developer’s server, though, so we cannot tell you when a busy spell will clear.

Why does it say this browser has no WebGPU?

It means your browser does not expose WebGPU at all, so the launcher stops before the game loads. The exact text reads: “This browser has no WebGPU. The world needs it: use a current Chrome, Edge or Safari (Linux Chrome: enable chrome://flags/#enable-unsafe-webgpu).” Update your browser first. On Linux, open that flag page in Chrome, turn the setting on and restart the browser. The same warning box offers a Windows download, which needs no WebGPU. The download and mobile guide covers that version.

What if WebGPU finds no usable graphics card?

Your browser has WebGPU, but it could not get a graphics adapter to work with. The launcher’s notes give three common causes: hardware acceleration is off, the graphics card or driver is blocklisted or you are on a remote desktop. Its advice, in order:

  1. On a laptop with two graphics cards, open Windows Settings, then System, Display and Graphics. Pick Chrome or Edge, set it to High performance and restart the browser.
  2. Turn on “Use graphics acceleration when available” at chrome://settings/system or edge://settings/system.
  3. Update your graphics driver.

The page chrome://gpu shows why WebGPU is disabled. The launcher’s notes add one detail for Windows laptops: Chrome only offers WebGPU on the graphics chip its own display runs on. That is why the High performance setting matters even when your laptop has a capable card.

Why does the screen stay black?

A black screen usually means the client began to boot and then stopped. The launcher catches that case and replaces the black canvas with “The game failed to start in this browser,” followed by a reason in brackets. Most often, the notes say, it is WebGPU refusing the device the game asked for, so the steps in the previous section apply here too.

Two other things can look like a hang. The first visit downloads a few hundred megabytes of game files, which takes a while on a slow connection. A reload right after an update can also fail with a message about something that “requires a callable.” The launcher’s notes say that comes from an old cached script meeting a new game build, and a fresh reload of the official page should clear it. If you hear no sound, click or press a key once. Browsers hold audio until you interact, and the launcher wakes it on that first input.

What does Too many people are playing mean?

The server behind the official site has hit its daily request limit, so it is turning away new loads. The game sees an HTTP 429 answer and shows: “Too many people are playing!!! Join our Discord or download the game for Windows!!!” Those two links go straight to Discord and the download, so they work while the game server is busy. For the browser version, the only fix is to try again later. Reloading over and over will not get you in sooner.

Why does a copy on another site say Fake website detected?

The game only runs on wow.aethus.pl, and it refuses to start on copies or inside another site’s frame. You will see “Fake website detected! Azeroth Survivors is free at its real page: wow.aethus.pl” with a link. If you made progress on that copy, the launcher adds a Download your save button so you can carry it over. The save backup guide has the steps. This is also why the Azeroth Survivors game page on UBG76 opens the official site in a new tab rather than showing the game in a frame.

What if the graphics card stops responding?

Reload the page. The launcher reports this as “The graphics card stopped responding to the game (WebGPU device lost)” and says a driver reset or a switch between graphics cards can cause it. If it keeps happening on a laptop with two graphics cards, set the browser to High performance as described above.

Phones get their own message, which says the phone’s graphics driver crashed while the game was preparing a shader. The launcher saves a crash report in your browser and prints it in the developer console on the next load. If you report the problem on the game’s Discord, that report is the most useful thing to include. More short answers are in the Azeroth Survivors wiki FAQ .

What else do players ask about Azeroth Survivors not working?

Does Azeroth Survivors work in Firefox?
The launcher only names current Chrome, Edge and Safari. Its code also notes reports of Firefox players losing the graphics device to an out of memory error after about five minutes, so try Chrome or Edge first.
Can I play Azeroth Survivors over a remote desktop?
Probably not. The launcher lists a remote desktop session as one reason WebGPU finds no graphics adapter, so play on the computer itself.
